Who We Are: The Heart Behind The Sober Pig Rescue Ranch

Who We Are

The Sober Pig Rescue and Healing Ranch will be a sanctuary for second chances

A place where abandoned animals and survivors of trauma come together to heal, grow, and reclaim hope.
Founded by Shayla Mitchell, a survivor herself, and inspired by her rescue dog Bubba, The Sober Pig is being built on the belief that healing should be natural, compassionate, and sustainable.
Here, recovery won’t be rushed. Every being — human or animal — will be met with patience, kindness, and respect for their journey.
Our mission is to create a safe, nurturing environment where broken spirits find their way back to trust.
We will rescue animals at risk.
We will empower survivors escaping violence and hardship.
We will grow food from the earth, build community from connection, and create a place where every life matters.
Through the sales of Bubba’s Dry Dog Shampoo — a gentle, coconut-based dry shampoo born from Bubba’s own journey — and with the generous support of our community, we are planting the seeds for a future filled with hope, healing, and new beginnings.
At The Sober Pig Rescue and Healing Ranch:
🌱 Healing is possible.
🐾 Rescue is mutual.
🧡 And every act of kindness moves us closer to a world where no one is left behind.

Our Approach

At The Sober Pig Rescue and Healing Ranch

we believe healing is a journey — one that begins with compassion, trust, and second chances.
Our approach is simple: create a safe, nurturing space where abandoned animals and survivors of trauma can heal side-by-side, connected by the land, the animals, and the shared experience of rebuilding hope.
Rather than force healing on a schedule, we honor the slow, natural rhythm of recovery. Whether it’s a scared rescue dog learning to wag its tail again, or a survivor planting their first garden row in years, every step forward is celebrated.
Our ranch will be a living example of sustainability and sanctuary. We grow our own food, create clean natural products like Bubba’s Dry Dog Shampoo, and commit 10% of all proceeds back to shelters in Oregon — helping others on their journey, just as we were once helped.
Our rescue philosophy is simple:
🐾 Meet each being where they are.
🌿 Let healing unfold without fear.
🧡 Build a community where survival transforms into thriving.
Through the power of nature, unconditional love, and trust, we believe healing isn’t just possible — it’s inevitable.
At The Sober Pig Rescue Ranch, every life matters. Every broken heart has a place to mend. And every miracle begins with someone brave enough to believe in it.

Our mission is to rescue abandoned animals, support survivors of trauma, and rebuild lives through sustainable healing.

By connecting people to animals, nature, and community, we aim to transform trauma into trust, fear into freedom, and isolation into belonging.
At The Sober Pig Rescue Ranch, healing isn’t forced — it’s nurtured, patiently and compassionately, every day.

Our vision is to create a living, breathing sanctuary of second chances

We imagine fields filled with food and flowers, barns filled with rescued animals, and survivors learning to rebuild their lives side-by-side with the land.
Through kindness, sustainability, and shared healing, we envision a future where no life is left behind — and where hope grows strong, one miracle at a time.

Our story began when Bubba and I rescued each other

Bubba was a terrified shelter dog; I was a survivor searching for safety and hope.
Out of that shared pain, a new dream was born: a place where healing could happen naturally, without pressure or fear.
Today, The Sober Pig Rescue Ranch carries that dream forward — one paw, one hand, one heart at a time.
